Has there really been a “dark brown sugar” all along? And for that matter, is what is commonly known as brown sugar actually “light brown sugar?” My life is turned upside down.

I shit you not I discovered this very dilemma just yesterday getting stuff for snickerdoodles. I had no idea and whenever my wife sends me grocery shopping I get so distracted and nervous of all the choices, I always need to know ahead of time exactly what and how much to get so when she said brown sugar and I all of a sudden had to make an unexpected decision it really threw me for a loop.

I’ve always had brown sugar and golden sugar as options. I’ve always used the two interchangeably, but I suppose gold is technically light brown...

dark or light depends on how much molasses it has in it. out of dark just put in a little molasses out of brown sugar all together mix some granulated sugar with some molasses.

This is just some of the stuff we have to contend with at our place.
It’s madness.
The other week my mother asked, ‘do you sell Tate & Lyle white sugar at your place?’, I said ‘no why?’, her reply, ‘well the Silver Spoon white sugar is too sweet’. I just said, ‘well use less of it then’. I mean, they are both granulated white sugars for goodness sakes.

I asked my wife about this, not that long ago, probably within the last year.
Part of me wonders if there was only one brown sugar when I was younger, and now there are two. Otherwise I’m left to believe that the Mandela Effect has left it’s mark again.

Dude they even have different kinds of flour. Am I an idiot for not knowing that? I had no idea until my Aunt decided to open up her own bakery and was telling me about how expensive the bulk cake flour she had to order was.
I had no idea and I feel like I must be the only person who didn’t know!
